The Energy and Mining Industry Industry

South Australia is seizing new opportunities as the world pursues more efficient ways of living and working. Our State leads Australia in renewable energy sources such as wind and solar, and is developing internationally recognised expertise in water security and treatment, as well as waste management.

The State Government is investing in initiatives that will create new energy industry jobs here, the $550 million energy plan ensuring more of the State’s power is sourced, generated and controlled in South Australia.

Because of this, it is estimated that 1000 full-time jobs will be created through the construction of energy-related initiatives such as the world’s largest lithium-ion battery, the new solar thermal power plant in Port Augusta and the new state owned power station, with 100 further jobs through increased gas exploration.

This will build a sustainable and reliable energy network, and create more job opportunities for South Australians as the industry continues to grow.

Mining continues to be a major industry in South Australia, with new mining projects starting regularly. OZ Minerals recently announced a copper project at Carrapateena, which will create up to 1,000 new jobs in regional South Australia.
